Introduce

The Bai Chay Bridge is a symmetrical single plane stay cable bridge with a total length of 901 m, consisting of a main-span of 435 m and side-spans of 250.5m on 1 side and 215.5 m on the other (35 + 86 + 129.5 + 435 + 129.5 + 86m). The approach bridges have a length of 99 m (29.45 + 40 + 29.45m). The single cell box girder with 2 central steel pipe diagonal deck has a width of 25.3 m and depth of 3.5 m. The top of Pier table is 51.145 m from top of pilecap. The Pier structure is 51.145m tall from top of pilecap and is octagonal shape with max dimension of 8 m and with curved surfaces. The Tower structure is 91.5m tall from top of Pier table, width in the longitudinal direction of bridge is varying from bottom to top i.e. from 6.7 m to 5.175 m. Width in transverse direction is 3 m. Curved architecgitectural features are incorporated on the width with varying dimension. This Tower is prestressed vertically (length of upto 50 m) for wind load resistance. Cable stay anchorage area is prestressed concrete. Special dampers are installed inside the tower for damping the tower movement. Permanents elevators and steel platforms are also installed inside the Tower. Once completed, Bai Chay Bridge shall hold the world record for the largest main span for single plane cable stay.

Chi Thang's Scope of Works

Acting as member of the Main Contractor team, our team is in charge of the full Tower construction excluding permanent material supply. Our team is also full in charge of the installation, operation and dismantling of the 2 tower cranes (230 ton metre and 180 ton metre), 4 Alimak hoists, 6 nos 220 kVA generators, 2 nos 390 cfm air compressors, 3 to 5 stationary concrete pump and pipelines, water supply system, 2 nos. 11 ton HIAB trucks, 2 nos. 25 ton rough terrain crane until the completion of superstructure works. Our team was also in charge to install 4 nos. HEK platforms (for Freyssinet Vietnam) at the Tower, and 4 nos. cleaning platform for superstructure works and was also responsible for the lifting of superstructure formwork traveler and the stressing of brackets for the Pier table support and also the dismantling of the Tower Crane used for Pier construction.

Project Management for the full Tower construction including supply of pylon manager, construction manager, plant manager, site engineers, foreman, and tower crane operators, equipment operators and skilled labours. The team is used to manage the full construction of the Tower including concrete works, rebar works, formwork, post-tensioning, temporary and permanent steel fabrication, erection works, damper installation, steel stage installation, permanent elevator installation etc. Scope includes design, drafting and fabrication control of all temporary steel works, design and drafting of rebar, concrete geometry, post-tensioning, formwork, all permanent and temporary items, cast –item items; design and layout of all mechanical, pneumatic, water, electrical setup for the Tower construction, installation, operation and dismantling of all equipment. All planning, works program, methodology, construction sequence, lifting sequences, quality control, document control for the Tower construction,
